New Delhi, [India]Jan. 1 (ANI): A great career in digital media, like any other industry, requires the right education, skills, values, experience, interest, and networking. Before you decide to make a career in digital media, let’s take a look at some statistics.
Globally, there are 4.2 billion active digital media users. This large user base has made digital media one of the biggest industries in the world. The success of businesses around the world now largely depends on digital media marketing. And, therefore, a career in digital media offers much better and diverse prospects compared to audiovisual and print media.

Social media users compared to the total population from different parts of the world clearly indicate that the use of social media is increasing dramatically across the world. While 79 percent of the population in Northern and Western Europe actively uses social media. Active social media users make up over 69% of the population in Southeast Asia.

In 2021, 5.22 billion people had access to mobile phones, 4.66 billion used the Internet, and 4.2 billion people were active social media users. Active social media users represent 53.6% of the world’s population.
Digital media skills are in high demand, such as digital advertising, social media marketing, website and app development, graphics and game design. In-house digital media experts are also required in large numbers in non-profit organizations for designing crowdfunding and advocacy campaigns, in the healthcare, finance, retail and hospitality sectors. ‘education. After completing a course in digital media, students can pursue careers as digital journalists, digital photographers, web content writers, content developers, social media strategists, video designers and editors, and illustrators (Figure 3). Down the street, employers are looking for skilled digital media writers, designers, developers, and marketers.

To become a digital journalist, you will need to learn the basics of journalism as well as the tools of digital media. Since digital journalists primarily report and write for news organization websites and digital newswires, you will need to take additional training to write content that reaches the target audience. Writing content for better optimization is the key to success.
Since fact checking is an essential aspect for journalists, you will also need formal training in using fact checking tools for text, images and videos. As a digital journalist, you might have the opportunity to write a report on specific topics such as business, education, glamor, politics, international affairs, and sports. You can pursue a bachelor’s degree program in digital and mass media at media schools in India and abroad. Some media schools also offer a bachelor’s degree program in Journalism and Mass Communication with a specialization in digital media.
Video editors and graphic designers are in demand not only for the information and entertainment industry, but also for digital marketing. As a video editor and graphic designer, your main responsibility will be to add value to the content by adding effects, captions and illustrations to the audiovisual content. The video editing software used are Adobe Premier Pro and Final Cut Pro. For graphics, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop are what you need to learn. A good knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud is recommended for students who wish to pursue a career as a video editor or graphic designer. There are institutes that offer programs like the B.Sc. in Animation and Visual Effects to train students as professional artists.
Web designers and developers are also in high demand as most businesses need a web presence. Designing the pages of websites involves special skills. Web designers and developers should be trained in UX and user interface, HTLM and programming languages, server management, content management system, search engine optimization and also to digital marketing. While opting for a relevant program, research the curriculum of different media institutes to make sure that all of these courses are part of the curriculum. There are serval institutes in India that offer both offline and online short courses for these specialized skills. But I would suggest going for a full-time undergraduate program covers all aspects of web design and development.
Digital media marketing requires a mix of skills ranging from content creation to customer relationship management. Digital media marketing experts typically acquire the skills necessary for effective content writing, lead generation, data analysis, visualization, display advertising, marketing automation, search engine optimization and content management system. Experts who develop digital media research skills are more in demand in the industry. Programs like BA in Digital and Mass Media, Masters in Digital Media, Certificate and Diploma in Digital Media train students to pursue careers in digital media marketing.
Social media strategists need specific leadership and communication management skills to execute a companies social media plan. Social media planners are needed everywhere, whether it’s a political party or a business. A good knowledge of models of community engagement and behavioral psychology is the key to a solid career in social media management. Planning and scheduling content is an important aspect of an effective social media strategy.
Besides the challenging skill set, certain traits like curiosity, adaptability, and creativity are required to be successful in the rapidly evolving digital media ecosystem. Digital media are the present and the future of communication. The digital landscape is full of opportunities. You just need to train yourself in new technologies and designs. Thinking outside the box and applying innovative methods in digital media design would be an added benefit for you.
The Indian government’s Digital India program aims to transform India into a digitally self-sufficient society. This government vision will only be realized when India has sufficient human resources trained to harness the potential of the digital media ecosystem.
