Dynamic athlete Rodney Gallagher ready for Notre Dame visit

With the Blue-Gold Game scheduled for this Saturday, optimism around Notre Dame’s schedule is at an all-time high. The same can be said on the recruiting side, setting up a talent pool visiting campus for the event.

Uniontown, Penn. Laurel Highlands Star Athlete Rodney Gallagher is one of the main unengaged targets that must be present. This will be Gallagher’s first trip to South Bend, providing a huge opportunity for the staff to impress the talented playmaker. Gallagher shares that enthusiasm.

“I’m just excited to see it all, to be honest,” Gallagher said. “Notre Dame has a lot of tradition and I’m delighted to understand it all. Seeing the team in action is also extremely important to me.”

As Irish Breakdown have reported in the past, Notre Dame staff have been pressing all over the pitch for Gallagher’s services. Calling it a priority would be a huge understatement.

“I’m talking to the coach (Song) stuckey almost every day,” he said. “If it’s not Coach Stuckey, I speak to another member of staff daily.”

Gallagher is one of the best athletes in high school football. It offers offers from programs such as Irish, Michigan, Texas, Penn State, Cincinnati, and Virginia Tech, among others.

The Pennsylvania product is a consensus four-star prospect on all major recruiting platforms, and 247Sports lists him as the No. 97 overall player and No. 10 receiver in the nation. They also have him as the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania State – territory where Notre Dame wants to have more impact.

The 6-foot-0, 170-pound athlete is a dynamic, dual-threat quarterback for Laurel Highlands. His biggest impact came as a rusher, where he led the team with 1,130 yards and 21 touchdowns. As a passer, he threw for 1,365 yards and 12 touchdowns. Gallagher also had an assist for 22 yards for good measure, while averaging 22.1 yards per punt return and taking one home.

Gallagher is also a dynamic high school basketball player, averaging 18.9 points per game during his career. It also has several offers to play basketball at the college level, including offers from Illinois, Pittsburgh, and Rhode Island. Gallagher has since decided to focus solely on football at the top level.

With Gallagher and his team entrenched in a hardwood playoff run, he had put recruiting on the back burner for a while. April became a huge chance for Gallagher to participate in a wide variety of programs and start whittling down her roster.

“I haven’t made a decision yet in terms of timelines,” Gallagher explained. “This month is full of visits for me and this is where I can see what my recruiting will look like.”

Much has been said about the importance of this cycle to the wide receiver position, both in terms of depth and injecting talent into the roster. Gallagher has been near the top of the table for quite some time now. Seeing Notre Dame first-hand is a milestone for the Pennsylvania playmaker.
